If you could rewrite the Bible…

So, today is Thanksgiving Monday here in Canada and I find myself sitting at my desk reading some of the news when I came across an article in the Globe and Mail.  It seems that an extreme conservative group in the states feels that the Bible is too liberal and that it needs to be rewritten to reflect more conservative values.

I have to be honest.  I can’t stand this.  This type of thing drives me nuts because it’s the biggest problem most people have with church and the people in them.  We’d rather be what we decide is ‘christian’ than what the Bible actually says is Christ-like.  I realize this is not the majority of those who follow Christ but the problem for me is that it’s people like this who get mainstream press coverage and not those who are actually trying to do their best to be like Jesus.  This is the type of impression people get and not one that’s accurate.  Ugh, well, maybe it is accurate and I’m just on the outside.  I dunno.  It seems like more and more of these stories keep cropping up.

Well, if you’re out there and you’re wondering if this is really what church is like, as far as I’m concerned it’s not anything like what Jesus meant when he blessed the church and called it his bride.  This idea is laughable at best and extremely heretical at worst.  Church, stand up for yourself and stop allowing people like this to dominate the headlines and become the story of what it means to follow Christ.
