Kickoff Week
Wow. What a great week! I was blown away by the number of students that joined us for both our high school and middle kickoffs this week. It’s been an exciting journey getting to kickoff week and even though our high school kickoff didn’t go exactly as planned it was still fun. We had hoped to have a whole WipeOut theme but unfortunately the blower on our giant obstacle course broke so we had to change our entire night in about 3 minutes. Wow! Ha ha. I think for me the highlight was seeing so many fresh leaders be a part of student ministries. The kickoff for high school especially was almost like an orientation by fire for our leaders but they did wonderfully. We had double the turnout we were expecting at high school so of course, the cry for more leaders continues but we’ve got a solid team in both camps with more joining the ranks (hopefully) and I am excited about what God is going to do. The middle school kickoff went as expected with many returning students and a bunch of new ones as well. But for me, the anxiety and hopes this year were in what would happen with our high school group. Last year we ended with roughly twenty showing up and this year, I’d heard a lot of people say they would come and check it out, but experience has taught me that intentions sometimes don’t become direction so I wasn’t sure how it would play out. We had a great group of students from the church come out but what blew me away was that our church students invited their unchurched friends. Where last year our group was pretty exclusively church students, this year, the group was about a 60-40 split. I am excited to see what God has in store for our high schoolers and their friends and this could just be that breakthrough year. If you are the praying type, you can pray that students would continue to come, they would continue to invite their friends and we would continue to have amazing people want to volunteer and be a part of our high school/middle school teams.
